Call to Order

Secretary Sidna Madden Trimmel called the meeting to order at 9:01 am

Introductions and Welcome:

Public Comments: The Oklahoma City Mayor’s Committee on Disability Concerns welcomes citizens comments at the beginning of each meeting. Comments shall be limited to three (3) minutes and citizens must sign in at least five (5) minutes before the meeting is scheduled to begin. Citizens that are not committee members are not permitted to participate in regular meeting discussion. By signing up for comments, you acknowledge the commenting procedures of the committee.

  • Sent July Minutes for approval on Aug. 2
    • Scott moved to approve
    • Ken seconded
    • Motion passed unanimously

Treasurer – Scott Ellis

  • Ending balance $6,081.02
  • Website hosting bill came in and will be $575.64 for three years.
    • Adam moved we pay the $575.64
    • Keith seconded
    • Motion passed unanimously

Reports from Emergency Management and City ADA Coordinator

Emergency Management – Lt. David Storer / Capt. Audrea George

  • They are simulating a bus crash with EMBARK and first responders.

City ADA Coordinator – Keith Wilkinson

  • Civic Center just remodeled the Little Theatre. Hearing Loss Association of Oklahoma has lodged a complaint about the hearing loop in the main part. A foundation manages the day to day operations of the center and Keith is waiting for their response to the complaint.
  • He finally has the ADA Standards for ramps written.
  • Ramp on the pedestrian bridge is being corrected. The contractor owned the error and will have Keith check the new work before the concrete is poured.
  • ODOT is putting in sidewalks at May and I-35 and on Penn Aven.

  • In the process of recruiting new volunteers.

Membership Review —Lori Wathen

  • Today we vote on Kyle and Charles has attended two meetings and Greg is here for his first meeting.

Awards

  • Need to start, Sidna called for new committee members. Scott Ellis said he would chair the committee. Joy Turner and Ken Wyatt also volunteered to be on the committee.

New Business

  • Bylaw revisions – Sidna Trimmel
    • Scott Ellis moved we accept the bylaw changes with the change on Article IV, Section 3 to read “from appointed by the chair” to “elected by the committee.”
    • Keith Wilkinson Seconded the motion
    • Motion passed unanimously.
  • New Member vote – Kyle King, FAA Dept. of Transportation, Human Resources Specialist – Sidna Trimmel
    • Scott Ellis moved to accept Kyle King membership to the committee.
    • Liz Scheffe seconded the motion
    • Motion passed unanimously.

Reports from Members on Boards and Commissions

  • Lori Wathen attended the Parks Commission – They have a great adaptive program at Sellers Park. They tabled a motion to sell a piece of land
  • Ken Wyatt attended the Riverfront special session about a building that needed to be torn down to make way for a parking lot.
  • Scott Ellis attended Bricktown Urban Design – they are discussing Signage for proper visibility next meeting asked if someone who knew about that would attend. Liz Scheffee took down the information and may attend.

Announcements from Members

  • Adam Lane – Michelle Salt is a para-olympian is coming through OKC . She has a You Tube Channel and will be making some videos with Adam this Sunday.
  • Loring Wathen – reported that Sooner Success had 200 people at their swim party.
    • She also reported that Sept 23 will be the Fall Festival
    • Sooner Success is bring back Wrights Law Training on Sept. 26 in OKC and Sept 28 in Tulsa. The event cost $40 to attend.
  • Liz Scheffe reported the DRS will host White Cane Safety Day downtown OKC on Oct. 13
  • Dana Tallon reported that DRS will host its 30th Anniversary Celebration at the state office on Oct 17 from 11 am to 3 pm
