Regular Meeting Minutes February 2020

Attendance

Members in attendance: Herb Bailey, Frank Barnes, Marilyn Dillon, Scott Ellis, Jacob Hill, Larry Hopper, Adam Lane, Sidna Madden, Zubayr Rahman, Liz Scheffe, Dana Tallon, Lori Wathen, Keith Wilkinson, and Ken Wyatt.

Members excused: Vera Cheek, Heather Hancock Blackburn, Nedra Ruth, Sharron Schaefer, Curtis Singleton, Sandra Webster, and Emma Woodford.

Members unexcused: Dr. Henry Asin, Brittany David, Jackie Haverly and James Timberlake

Call to Order

Chair Sidna Madden called the meeting to order at 8:05 am.

Public Comments: The Oklahoma City Mayor’s Committee on Disability Concerns welcomes citizens comments at the beginning of each meeting. Comments shall be limited to three (3) minutes and citizens must sign-in at least five (5) minutes before the meeting is scheduled to begin. Citizens that are not committee members are not permitted to participate in regular meeting discussion. By signing up for comments, you acknowledge the commenting procedures of the committee.

Report from Officers

  • Approval of January 8, 2020 Minutes – Dana Tallon
    • Scott Ellis moved that the minutes be accepted, Adam Lane seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

  • Treasurer’s Report – Scott Ellis
    • The beginning balance as of 12/30 was $7,122.90. We had an income of $.60 in interest for a total income of $.60. No expenses. Giving an ending balance as of 1/31 on $7,123.50. We continue leave $5 in the savings account as required.

Reports from Emergency Management and City ADA Coordinator

Emergency Management – Frank Barnes
Frank reported they have filled the community relations position pending the background check; no new major initiatives; planning the 25th Memorial Marathon; all exercises and trainings for the city have been accomplished for the year; his new deputy is in the process of training.

City ADA Coordinator – Keith Wilkinson
Keith reported that his office is teaming up with OCCC to offer an updated certification training so builders and contractors will know how to build according to the new ADA rules. This saves on rebuilding.

ADA Workshop — Sidna Madden

  • We have the speaker and the Mayor reserved for the Oct. 2

Awards — Marilyn Dillon

  • No updates, no new nominations received.

Audit — Marilyn Dillon

  • No update. Need two volunteers to serve with you and I on the Audit Committee to meet in April or May for one hour.

Barrier Free Design — Scott Ellis

  • Barrier Free Design did one inspection last month.

Outreach — Herb Bailey

  • No report

Emergency Response — Ken Wyatt

  • Nothing to report

Expo – Adam Lane

  • We met following last month’s meeting and plan to meet following the February meeting. We are compiling a list of vendors and non-profits that we want to invite to participate in the Expo. I have reached out to Dana and have also reached out to Jim Thorpe to get a copy of their list of participants in their events.
  • Once the flyers for the event have been made, we can use email, phone calls, and personal visits to begin inviting organizations.
  • We plan to meet more frequently in order to coordinate who has been invited and who needs to be contacted.

Luncheon Activities — Dana Tallon

  • Dana and Jackie meet after the meeting and decided that a good number for the subcommittee would be five or less people. The committee will be determined from the newly filled out Assignment Forms.
  • We will call for the volunteers on the day of the event.
  • Not much else due to not having the subcommittee fully assigned.

Membership Review —

Public Relations — Zubayr Rahman

  • Zubayr will make the assignments for the members to attend Boards and Commissions.

Strategic Planning — Larry Hopper

  • No report

Ways and Means — Marilyn Dillon

  • No report

Other Business

Emails – Scott Ellis

  • None.

30th Anniversary of the ADA – Adam Lane

  • The Spinal Cord Association is hosting an event at Scissor Tail Park and is looking for Partners to help plan and celebrate.

New Business

None.

Reports from Members on Boards and Commissions

  • Herb Baily reported that CAA has a new director, Jessie Thompson.
  • Scott Ellis reported that if someone wanted to attend a board or commission the agenda are on the City’s website.

Announcements from Members

  • Dana Tallon reported that People with Disabilities Awareness Day is March 10th. This year’s event is more of a social media event due to the construction at the capitol preventing us from having a large crowd and exhibitors.
  • Marilyn Dillon reported that Transit Day is March 31st at the state capitol, see OTA Transit’s website for more information.
  • Scott Ellis reported Veterans Awareness Day is March 25 at the state capitol.
