About the Speaker Richard Sternadori, M. ARCH, M. ED, CBO, PCRC, ACTCP:

Richard Sternadori M. ARCH, M.Ed., AIA, CBO, ACTCP, CRC

Richard is the Education Coordinator and Research Director for the University of Missouri (MU) Great Plains ADA Center since 2008.  He holds a masters of Architecture (M. ARCH) from MU where he is a faculty instructor with the Department of Architectural Studies. He also has masters of education (M.Ed.) in counseling psychology, with a specialty in disabilities rehabilitation.  

 His background includes 16 years as Chief Building Official and zoning administrator. Highlights include two awards from the International Code Conference (ICC) for leadership. Richard chaired the ICBO Contractor Licensing Committee, which led to the contractor licensing exams used today by all 50 states. Governor Joan Finney appointed Rich to the Kansas State Board of Technical Professions, which oversees education and licensing for architects, engineers and surveyors.

As the ADA Center Research Director, Richard oversees a five-year Federal study of accessibility in city and county governments across a four-state region. To date, the study has analyzed more than 350 city and county governments and resulted in several publications regarding community accessibility, design, aging and livability of communities.

Richards educational programs are accredited by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the International Code Council (ICC). He is the liaison between the 10 National ADA Centers and the ICC and directs all accessible design education with the ICC for the annual ADA National Symposiums.

  • Author and co-author of publications regarding accessibility standards at American Universities. Published in the ICC Building Safety magazine 2016; the Journal of Interior Design, 2015; the Interior Design Educators Council, 2017; the NARRTC Research Conference, Washington DC., 2019.
  • Provider of education to the American Institute of Architects; the International Interior Design Association; the International Code Council; State of Nebraska 309 Task force for Building Renewal; the State of Nebraska Governor’s Task Force for ADA Coordinator; the State of Utah Facilities and Management Association; all 21 locations of Six Flags Amusement Parks;
  • Co-Author of examinations for the Certified ADA Coordinator Program, now with more than 1800 nationally accredited ADA Coordinators.
  • Educator in the National Electrical Code; Johnson County College, Kansas City, MO.
