Call to Order

Chair Sidna Madden called the meeting to order at 9:02 am

Introductions and Welcome:

Public Comments: The Oklahoma City Mayor’s Committee on Disability Concerns welcomes citizens comments at the beginning of each meeting. Comments shall be limited to three (3) minutes and citizens must sign in at least five (5) minutes before the meeting is scheduled to begin. Citizens that are not committee members are not permitted to participate in regular meeting discussion. By signing up for comments, you acknowledge the commenting procedures of the committee.

Emergency Management – Frank Barnes

  • COVID Report
    • We are in the middle of another surge
    • Hospitalizations and Intensive Care cases are down
    • Deaths are staying low
    • City is mainitaining continuity of operations because of the rise in case but not reductions in services
  • Feb and Mar. is wild fire risk and we are encouraging everyone to be fire wise.

Other Business

  • Grant application: Lori Wathen reported the grant was of approved for us to give 40 Walmart delivery subscriptions to people with disabilities in the OKC area.
  • Created a subcommittee to work on this with Tabitha Pope and James Helm.
  • Due to the short deadline of Feb. 28, the subcommittee has the authority to make all the decisions and implement the distributions.
  • Will give 10 subscriptions to Mid-America PVA to give to veterans

New Business

Reports from Members on Boards and Commissions

  • Youth Council meeting: Tabitha Pope attended they had 4 presenters for the students; she would like a folder about the committee to give out.
  • Downtown Urban Committee: Tabitha Pope needs meeting information and hasn’t been contacted by the committee yet.
  • Plan Review: Scott Ellis attended; they had one issue with the egress of a bathroom. Scott recommended changing the swing of the door and it would be fixed. They were happy.
  • Library Commission: Lori Wathen did not attend Decembers. January is cancelled.
  • Zoo Trust: Jackie Haverly – attended December’s end of year meeting – no news; will attend Jan mtg later this month.
  • Housing Authority meeting: Liz Scheffe attended mainly about personnel issues and a little budget.

Announcements from Members

  • DRTC is partnering with Goodwill Oklahoma and hosting an Abilities Fair on Feb. 17 from noon to 2:30 p.m. at the State Fair grounds Hobby Arts and Craft building
  • People with Disabilities Awareness Day is March 8 at the Oklahoma History Center
