Call to Order

Chair Sidna Madden called the meeting to order at 9:01 am

Introductions and Welcome:

Audrea George and Bryan Taylor, from the City’s Emergency Management department

Public Comments: The Oklahoma City Mayor’s Committee on Disability Concerns welcomes citizens comments at the beginning of each meeting. Comments shall be limited to three (3) minutes and citizens must sign in at least five (5) minutes before the meeting is scheduled to begin. Citizens that are not committee members are not permitted to participate in regular meeting discussion. By signing up for comments, you acknowledge the commenting procedures of the committee.

  • Deposited $4,194.14 from the grant reimbursement
  • Total $6,490.90

Reports from Emergency Management and City ADA Coordinator

Emergency Management – Frank Barnes

  • This is Frank Barnes last report to the committee because he is retiring.
  • The unit is moving away from Covid awareness to back to normal duties mainly severe weather.
  • He would like to encourage everyone to have multiple ways to receive emergency warnings such as weather radios, Deaflink text message and weather apps on smart phones.

City ADA Coordinator – Keith Wilkinson

  • Received typical complaints both of which have been resolved.
  • He consulted on a private entity that put in new doors with the thresehold that was too high the contractor and inspectors are aware and hopefully it will be resolved soon.

Other Business

  • Walmart Subscription Grant: Lori Wathen reported we were able to distribute 41 subscriptions to Okla. City residents with disabilities. The subscription and postage has been reimburse to the committee. The grant is completed, all paperwork is completed.

New Business

Reports from Members on Boards and Commissions

  • Jackie Haverly attended the Zoo Trust meeting, they basically discussed the new big project they are working on.
  • Larry attended the Trails committee

Announcements from Members

  • Larry Hopper: May 14 named Walk and Roll on the westside of Overhoster.
  • James Helm: DRTC has a new video promoting community integrated employment
  • Lori Wathen: Sooner Success had a caretaker respite last weekend
  • Heather Hancock: Would like everyone to contact their congress member to be in favor of the Marriage bill that allows individuals with disabilities to marry and not worry about losing Social Security benefits.
  • Curtis Singleton: April 21 from 5:30 to 9 pm; OCU Annual Basketball Tournament there will be a silent auction and tee shirts for sale
